Bex Gaunt is an award-winning composer, conductor, and performer whose artistry spans classical, folk, jazz, and liturgical traditions. Based in Detroit, Michigan, she is passionate about creating and sharing music that inspires connection, beauty, and dignity.

As the former fiddle player and vocalist for the GRAMMY® Award-winning folk/Americana duo The Okee Dokee Brothers, Bex toured extensively across the United States, Canada, and Ireland. She has also appeared alongside the Minnesota Orchestra and given performances with Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli’s live ensembles. Her versatility was recognized when she earned the grand prize at the 2014 Electric Strings Festival Competition as part of the jazz ensemble Rhythm and Bows.

A longtime member of the acclaimed Minneapolis-based choir VocalEssence, Bex has performed with a wide range of ensembles across genres. Her compositions—published by the Justice Choir Songbook and GIA Publications—are marked by melodic richness and emotional resonance, drawing communities into shared purpose and reflection. One of her works, In the Morning, In the Evening, became a favorite among incarcerated women in the Voices of Hope prison choir in Minnesota, exemplifying her belief in music as a tool for healing and solidarity.

Bex has directed choirs of all ages and backgrounds, serving communities including St. Catherine University’s Our Lady of Victory Chapel, Nativity Lutheran, and The Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. She has also led youth and intergenerational choirs at festivals and clinics, fostering artistry and confidence in singers of every level. In addition, she co-directed StreetSong, an ensemble of people affected by homelessness, and continues to be shaped by experiences that center music as a vehicle for dignity and connection.

Her most recent collaborations highlight her ability to bridge sacred and secular spheres: in 2025, she contributed strings and background vocals to Miley Cyrus’s single More to Lose.

When she’s not conducting or performing, Bex devotes her time to arranging and composing music while cherishing life with her family in their new home in Michigan.
